Illustration Friday: Robot

Just a quick color sketch of father and son fishing at ol' Oil Slick Lake. I know I have some drawing problems in this, but I'm too busy and too tired to try and fix them now. I realized that I don't think I've ever drawn robots, so I did a little googling to try to get some ideas on the mechanics. National Geographic had a story about a real robot fish which probably helped inspire this image. While on their site I found a crazy article about a housefly with glasses, and another about a ginormous monster bunny which would have been a useful reference for me a few posts ago.

I don't think I'd ever drawn a robot before this either...yours turned out great! I love the father-son bonding, and the oil lake is a really original idea.

I love the way you managed to get such loving expressions on their faces with so few lines. The oil lake makes me smile! Sweet moment.

I'd be flattered if you put me on your blogroll! Thanks for asking. I'll put you on mine, too!

Yeah, I don't believe I've ever seen a robot from you before. This first attempt is great Angela! Drawing problems? I'm not seeing them. The characters are fun! The lil guy looks like he's squeeking out an air biscuit. If he's anything like my little cousins he's trained to yell "Fire in the hole!"...hmmm, I wonder who they learned that from? ;)

Neat links as well. I knew about the fly with specs and I saw the uber-bunny on Animal Planet a few weeks ago, but had no idea about the robot fish! That's awesome. I wonder if your Robo-dudes find that good eating.

I think this is so sweet and charming - I love how they are looking at each other. The way you drew them both is great - I like their shoulders and knees. You certainly can not tell this is a quick sketch that is for sure! Wonderful illustration.
