illustration Friday: Fast

After the turbulent storm Caleb and the Whale were fast friends.

I can't decide which color version I like best. Which do you prefer?

I really enjoyed sketching this one. Although I may have gone a little overboard with the waves. Ha! overboard = ship reference! Oh, I think I've been up way too long, and am getting loopy. This is my image for the other side of my promo postcard. I wanted to show character interaction with a dash of emotion. I'm also planning on offering prints of this in both color versions, but I'm too tired to get that set up tonight. But, check back soon. :)

Great work!

Definitely the first one...

I agree - the blue one is very nice and a new scheme. You should do more adventures of Whale-Size Boy (or Boy-Size Whale.)

Beautiful! I prefer the second one with the golden hue. I love when something is painted in a non traditional color.

They're both wonderful!

Oh my goodness, Angela, these are both so wonderful! I love your flying piggie, but I had inadvertently not seen your new banner (which I think is fantastic) and magnify. Just super wonderful work you have my dear!! Love that it looks so hand-drawn and has a bit of edge and whimsy.

I like the blue one much better. With the cool background, your eye is drawn faster to the boy's warm face and the hug. I love all the swirly waves. A second spot illustration using the same characters would be a great portfolio addition too - like the boy riding the whale maybe?

Lovely! I like both, but I think the first one is my favourite.

If I had to choose, it'd be the blue one, but both wonderful.

Thanks everyone! I guess my first instincts were correct. Sometimes you're just too close to it to know for sure.

Kristi, That's a great suggestion! I have so much portfolio rearranging to do before the PB conference next week.

I love the waves! Would not take away a single one. I like the blue best I think.

Awwwwwww, this warms my heart! What? Overboard on the waves? Hardly. They look FANTASTIC! I love these characters. They are just begging for a story to be written, don't you think? And although I do like both, I think the blue one helps frame the little boy better. Awesome!

Wow, I think the waves are perfect, not overboard at all (although, love the shop reference, hee hee!) Although the gold one is very cool and I like how it is not the expected color, I really think the first one works the best!!! Either way, you're a winner with this one!
