Illustration Friday: Beneath

It's that time of year again when you'll find friends gathering ripe apples beneath the autumn trees.
This sketch has been in the works on and off for the last couple weeks. I've been attempting to concentrate more on environment, depth of field, and multiple character interaction. Critiques are welcome as this is a work in progress, and I'm trying to improve my scenes. After I get some color on it I plan to send it out as a fall promo piece.
Since this is a light post I'd like to share this video I watched a few weeks ago, and even after countless viewings it continues to fill my soul with inspirtation.

Illustrator Pascal Campion talks about the art making process: http://vimeo.com/13387502

I couldn't agree more with how he views the creative process. I love how he talks about the importance of emotion in art.  Pascal is a special person and a genuine artist.

Fun characters and nice design. I like your lack of curves; the jaggedy edges give it a nice scatchboard feel. The one suggestion I would make would be to have the pig in the foreground doing something interesting. The other two have nice interaction and motion, but he seems to just be staring into the apple barrel. Love the ladders!

Yeah, I was puzzled with what to do with him. At one point I tried making him much larger to push him into the foreground even more, but it seemed too extreme and took away from the other two. Now this guy is just holding an apple somewhat Hamlet style.

I love me some piggies! Really cute sketch and love the interaction. What if the piggy in the foreground was looking over at the other piggies? Just a thought. Can't wait to see it in color! :)

Hey Angela! Cute sketch! Love the angles, especially of the ladders in the background too - it gives a nice patterning effect. Hey maybe the front piggy could be sneakily taking a bite out of an apple without the others seeing?

Thanks for that great link on vimeo - I always dreamed to have superpowers. turns out we all do! :-)

hope you are well bella x
