I was hoping to use this for one of the IF topics. I did this portrait last autumn for my mom's birthday. It is based on an old photograph of us from my childhood when we were goofing around with my dad's 'styling' fishing hat.
This was done almost entirely in Painter IX.
You can see a larger version which I posted at CGTalk. .

I really like it. I'm also amazed about what you can do in Painter... I'll give it a try, someday!
Your Mom must have loved this!!! I know I do!
beautiful!!
Excellent work! You wouldn't know it's digital except that you mention painter!
this is digital!? wow, you are mastering the program.

Lovely portrait! I came by yesterday but blogger did not want to show the pictures!! I am so glad I came back. Very beautiful - I absolutely love the coloring!
So very very beautiful and cute!
How sweet! And well done, too! Your mom looks a bit like Diane Lane here....
You are too cute with that cutie-pie face and braids! I'm diggin' your mom's hat. I love the twin hand-gesture in the pose--but really I can't take my eyes away from your adorable little face. Beautiful work.
I've loved this piece ever since you first showed me. Great execution. You're so good with Painter. I wish I could tap into your brain and steal some of your painting super powers (digitally and traditionally)!!
Very sweet, and what a great gift!

Your mom must have been so touched to receive such a lovely piece of art from you, plus with so much sentiment! Really nice use of color and it's nice you didn't try to re-create the photo, but lent it your own style. Mom should be proud!
This is so lovely!!
Wow, beautiful pic and the colors are nice, you did a great job
