The pain of being abandoned is often too much for a once beloved stuffed animal to bear. Some of the forgotten ones turn to self-sacrifice, offering themselves up to the almighty shredder to become pillow stuffing in one last desperate attempt to be close to those who once promised to love them forever.
I always intended colour for this one, but this chalkboard sketch version came about during the process, so I thought I'd share it as well.

Oh gulp, that is so sad. You know after I saw Toy Story 2, where the little cowgirl toy gets forgotten under the bed, and then left in a box by the side of the road, I was devestated. I went and dug up my old teddy bear and apologised profusely. That was some years ago now, but your illo has reminded me to go hunt him out again.

yes poor! I don't know why with all the problems in the world stuffed animals can touch us like this, but I cried at toy story 2 also.

A beautiful and moving illustration. I'll cuddle my pillow extra close tonight (and I still have my old favourite Lion hidden away in my top drawer so he's close).

wonderful illo but sad thought. your rite about pirates in the end, look at what happenerd to the guy from Enron and other famous X CEO's. thats why they make sure they have tighty lil severence pkg to fall back on when they're all done pillaging and plundering the public at large. and u can be sure they dont leave the ship with out it.

I LOVE this piece...I'm not sure you'll ever be able to top this because it is soooooo friggin' great! And I think you spelled color with a U because your chalkboard sketch looks like a homage to Simon from 'Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings.' Simon would want the stuffies to sacrifice themselves as well...not because he was an Imperialist, but because he worships the Aztec Gods and he believes their lives are a payment to Huitzilopochtli.
