Illustration Friday: Spring

I was hoping we'd get a 'spring' topic. A couple of week's ago I walked outside to go to work, and the air was warm, and the birds were chirping. I looked up and saw two robins on a branch. The first robin is always a nice sign that spring is here, so I figured two meant that mother nature wasn't kidding around. Then I glanced over at some other branches and there were 4, 5, wait, there were another 2 dozen or so robins gathered in the trees. I'd never seen a whole flock of robins before. (If 'flock' is even the right word.) Of course I've seen flocks of other birds, sparrows, crows, geese, but I've never seen so many robins in one place. It was a beautiful morning.

Then in true Chicago area fashion the very next day it snowed.

Cheer up -- we will get our spring bulbs and blossoms yet. I loved the change of moods, minus the robins and snow on branches illo. You captured this capricious weather well! Happy Spring!

I thought the follow-up picture of it snowing, was clever! =)

Angela, this is great little tale of spring and oh so true. I really like that you had two pictures and the words scribbled out on the second one. Love the background texture and your robins looked like they were here to stay.

Great contrast between the two illustrations! I love your collection of robins on those branches - drawn so well! Don't feel too despondent about the weather; it can't last long. I snowed here all morning and is still coming down as freezing rain. IIt's dreaery, but it's bound to warm up again...soon, I hope:>

I have a terrible secret to share about robins, but it will have to wait.

Haha! I love that you did a before and after illo combo. That's funny Angela! I can't say that I've ever seen Robins flock together either. Weird birds.

Mmmmmmm Robins. Now I want to go eat at Red Robin!

Great illo Angela!

Great drawing! We don't have robins in this part of the world (the tropics). It must be quite a chirpy scene.

Oh, robins are always a great sight, huh? I love the gentleness (best word I can think of) of this piece. Great palette too. And bummer about the snow- but this too shall pass :o) Lovely work!

You know, come to think of it, I have never seen a flock of Robins. I usually see just one, maybe two. Here in Seattle, though, I think most of the birds (aside from the pigeons) are frightened off by the scads of crows, which, don't get me wrong, are stunning creatures. Refreshing to see your Robins. Beautifully done.
