Illustration Friday: Plain

Scarlett was tired of being called a plain Jane.

This was inspired by the GI Joe Throwback contest going on over at Channel Frederator. I remember watching the cartoon everyday after school with my little brother. This is my kid sized version of the character, Scarlett who was know for being mighty handy with a crossbow. I decided to take this into Painter, and I had fun with the pastel brushes. I'm not sure if this is 'Joe' enough to submit to Frederator. I'd like to hear your critiques and opinions.

I checked out the link to the contest. Very impressive stuff, and very macho. Although your submission will be a slightly different take on the theme, it is very apropo and will be a breath of fresh air.

Very cool illo. Love how the sky turned out. How do you like painter? I've been meaning to take it for a spin one of these days.

Thanks everyone!

Linda- Thanks for your advice on the contest. Now I just have to register, and figure out how to submit.

I've used Painter on and off for years, and I love everything it can do, but the learning curve is a little high because of all the options. I usually go into it with a plan of using only 1 or 2 mediums per project, and it's always a learning experience, but it's like that with traditional mediums too. It runs slow on older computers, so sometimes I avoid it for that reason.

Cool! Thanks! I suppose anything worth doing has a learning curve, eh? I remember, back in the day Photoshop's mean curve. Heck, I'm still learning something every day on that deep application.

Nice! A double twist on Illustration Friday and Throwback Thursday!

Young Scarlett looks pretty fierce. I like the Jr. Joe logo you have created for her too.

Oh man, I had forgotten abot Scarlett. Maybe the forehead is a bit too high but it's an amazing piece regardless.

If you don't submit this to Frederator, I will be forced to impale a Care Bear. Funshine's life is in your hands, Angela! :P

Great color match with the original Scarlett figure!

I like to think that she already picked off the mean boys on the swings with her slingshot and that's why the swing set is empty.

Really breathes fresh life into the GI Joe competition.
