Illustration Friday: Boundaries

Some squirrels know no boundaries.
I've been finding with half eaten tomatoes in my garden....only the insides though....the culprits leave the tomato skin. I suspected the squirrels, and sure enough, one day I saw this guy stealing a green one, and another day one was eating a nice red cherry tomato. (Oh, but I should mention those are apples in the illustration. Didn't want you thinking I was fruit-identity deficient.)

This was a sketch from a awhile back that I colored up to add to my portfolio for the LA conference. I'm now working on a painting for a local show, which I'll post soon.

Until then, here are some photos of my sunflowers. I'm so glad they finally bloomed. I just hope the seeds develop before the first hard frost.

I think you could rephrase that: ALL squirrels know no boundaries! I remember blaming the birds for my heavy tomato losses until one day I saw a squirrel bowling a big one down the driveway! It was so hilarious, I couldn't be too mad.

Great take & illo!

Such an adorable illo. I'm hoping my Chihuahua's vigilance is keeping the squirrels from my tomatoes.

Thanks Leah and Laura!

When it first started I mixed up a batch of cayenne pepper spray to dissuade them, but with all the rain we've had it's near impossible to keep it up.

i got really annoyed with them!!! digging out my beetroot! and the very annoying bit is they just have a bite and then discard them! why can't they just dig one and try it out? and if they don't like the taste of it they can let all the other squirrels know so none of them will dig the rest up!

anyway... nice illo :)

Yup. Our squirrels steal our tomatoes as well. And they don't eat them either. Jerks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with squirrels that just eat one bite. I'm willing to let them have a tomato, but not if they're just going to waste them! Very cute art and nice photos too.

Love it! We used to have a squirrel that went as far as hanging upside down from the washing line just to get to the bird feeder! They're mad! (but I love em)

I live it! We had very similar ideas and posts, but since I don't do children's illustration (I'm so envious of all you that do it so well) our illustrations are so different! Isn't IF fun that way? I adore squirrels, so I love your darling drawing, and that photo is too cute!

Oops, I meant to mention how much I like your sunflowers' expressions. I grew them this year, too, and they always remind me of tall, willowy girls with golden hair...I think you should illustrate your expression ideas!
